(yeah, sorry about that, long story...)
Trobilu looked down at the man, as if pondering his next course of action. then he nodded, choosing which path to take.
Trobilu kicked the man in the head hard, nearly knocking him off of the ladder that led up to the trap door. satisfied, he went and sat back down silently, ignoring the look from Meptoa, who he himself did not even attempt to help the man...
the man finally clambered up into the room, looking at Trobilu as he wiped blood off of his severely broken nose and the large gash under his right eye. "what the hell was that for?" Trobilu calmly stood up, notably angry at this newcomer. "lets see... where to begin... you put the reins in the hands of a laviathon suit of armor who cant even remember where he came from or how to use the little knowledge he has retained, and then you take us to this damned city, then you abandon us in the 'foreign district' with the target being 'a foreign mage'! what did you expect!" he yanks out the letter that he found on the mage, "and here's your damned paper! now fork over the gold, and the price is doubled because of the trouble you caused us!" Trobilu was near his boiling point now, ignoring the others as his rage began to break through.

Pietra watched the whole event unfold with mild amusement. She hadn't had any real interest in the man who came up, but it was fun to watch someone bleed every once in a while. She was tempted to finish the job, and it appeared Trobilu wasn't massively happy with the man, himself. She held back, though. It wouldn't look too good if she killed the man...at least not without an order to do so.
Nelei also had an interest in the bleeding man. She couldn't help but wonder if this man truly needed all his blood. She didn't get to ponder long as Feryn closed up the man's wounds. "You really didn't need to do that. He'd have been fine without it." She considered making the man her slave for a while, but didn't. It wasn't worth the effort, as fun as it would have been.

the man nodded his thanks to Feryn after she closed his wounds, then turned to Trobilu, grumbling as he pulled out a large leather purse, thunking it on the table, "there... two thousand gold pieces. and by the way, the hunters are searching for you still, you may need to keep your heads low and skirt over to another safehouse. they are close to finding this one..."
Trobilu, having calmed considerably, checked the purse, testing a few of the coins with his teeth to make sure they were real, making sure to pick coins from all through the purse. satisfied, he stashed it away and turned back to the man, "now get out of here Ghuax, before i feel the urge to kill you..." Ghuax nodded, leaving the same way he arrived.

"If they are truly close to finding us, we should leave immediately. We can take a few of the new recruits, but some of the veterans...we'll be lucky if we never meet them. If we do, we won't have our mages and you two...they could probably cancel your existence entirely." Pietra let out a quick breath through her nose somewhat loudly. It was a habit she picked up that she only did when thinking of things that scared her. There weren't many things that did it, so Feryn didn't mind the occasional annoying sound from her.
"We've been in the presence of one before. I hadn't used any magic that day, but he could still smell it. He almost found me, but thankfully, there was another mage nearby, one that was far more dangerous." Feryn shivered. "But just being around that one..." She took a deep breath and suddenly stood up confidently. "But there's no point in scaring ourselves with that. They don't send them out unless they consider us a major threat. We probably have at least a few hours before we're a big enough threat to send anyone higher than the newest recruits. We were just unlucky with that last group."
Nelei finished eating and continued to draw on the walls. She made sure to erase all references to the language or who was in their group. The rest of the drawings weren't a huge concern for her, but she considered erasing them, too. She looked to the others. "If we're leaving, we shouldn't leave anything behind, right?" She didn't wait for an answer before erasing the rest of her art with a wave of her hand. "Or do you think he's lying? I don't know why he would, but...I've been sold out by people I didn't think would ever do it before."

"take what you can, it may be a while before we can find anything else to eat, but we may need to consider leaving the city and training ourselves before coming back. i do not like the way the government sees magic as only negative. i owe my existance to magic... i intend to bring this government to the ground, but we need more strength and skill. between the five of us we are fairly balanced, so that is good... but where should we head to?"

Nelei laughed nervously, then looked at Trobilu. "I want to know where you come from, now. Magic is hated everywhere around here. Our best chance would be to go overseas, somewhere not governed by religion." The last part of that sentence drew Pietra's attention.
"Our faith has served us well. There's nothing in our doctrine that disallows or even frowns on magic." She was tempted to draw her sword to defend her faith, but she didn't; she couldn't hurt a child. Even if she could, this was just one of the uninformed, so killing her wouldn't be defending her faith, it would be contradicting one of the core beliefs. "Do not blame the religion. Blame fear."
Nelei picked up on the anger, but tried not to show her fear. "I'm sorry." That's all she could get out before a new person arrived. Or, more correctly, he appeared next to her. He smiled at her,
"He followed them in. He has been watching them and listening. He happens to have a ship, and he won't ask for payment. As they probably noticed, He's not exactly unversed in the magical arts." He clenches his fist to demonstrate with a pale blue fire around his hand. "And, luckily for them, he knows somewhere where magic is legal. They would all stand out there, though, he's afraid. These three are enormous, and she, the little one, is quite...furry." His tone for the last word was almost condescending. "I don't even know what it is," he said, half-heartedly pointing at Trobilu, "but it most certainly won't blend in."
He walked around the room, looking at each one of the others. Finally, he stopped in the center of the room and faced the two damir. "He is called Ivaylo." He bowed deeply. "He would like to assist them, if they will allow it. He asks for no payment except the honor to be alongside these with nobility," he gestured with his head to Feryn and Nelei, "and these made with magic," he motioned toward Meptoa and Trobilu. In leaving out Pietra, however, he managed to incite jealousy.
"I will not accept your help." Pietra said, simply but forcefully.
"Ah, but beauty is a magic all its own. He will be honored to be alongside her, as well." He bowed again. This only angered her, however, and she walked over to him, fully two heads taller.
"You insult me, but our goals may be the same, voshi." She backed up again and took a deep breath. "I will go if the others do. Dest'at miju farie ula'lai."
Ivaylo nodded. "Her prayer is received thankfully. He apologizes for his insult."

Trobilu and Meptoa were unalarmed, "nice of you to show your face." Meptoa looks down on the new comer, finding him as a joke.
"and what country are you speaking of, how far away is your ship, where is your ship, and how big of a crew is your ship?" Trobilu then turned to Nelei, "and you do realize that he now knows your language as well..."
he then turned, musing to himself out loud quietly, "he is causing more problems than i had forseen... and this may be complicated... he is a pirate, and we need a way out, he may be playing us... then again he may not. this seems too coincidental... he knows a language he should not... i may need to take him out to insure our continued survival... he may even work for the hunters... hmm..."

Ivaylo smiled. "He is not an enemy as it seems to believe. He is truly an invisible friend." He watches Trobilu move away. "And he is amused at the big one's bluff. If the big one truly knew he followed, he wouldn't have allowed Ivaylo in." He stepped toward Trobilu. "He speaks of Fenoral. It is safe for any who do not harm the people inside. And the ship on which he is captain is at the docks, of course. The crew that works on the ship is not too large, but not small. Ten. These in this room will have to earn approval from them. They may not appreciate these three." He moved his arm to indicate the three females. "They may prove to be bad luck, if the tales ring truth."
Feryn nodded, wanting to leave this city, but Pietra was infuriated. She drew her sword and held it to the pirate's throat. "We will be on your ship without their approval. You fail as a captain otherwise." She sheathed her sword. Feryn pulled her back before she could do anything else.
Nelei walked toward him next and sniffed him. "I believe you and trust you for now. But your crew must not learn this language. I will personally take all their lives, as well as yours, if you break this promise." She watched him sternly, but couldn't look threatening in any way.
He nodded. "He promises the crew that works on the ship will not learn the language from him, and he never breaks his word." He holds out his hand, which Nelei examines closely before touching. She'd experienced powerful magic from a bleeding hand before and she didn't want to risk it. "If he wanted to use his magic on you, he would have by now." She shakes his hand finally, after some hesitation.

"This is far too coincidental, and far too risky..." Trobilu turned to Nelei, "notice his words, he chooses them carefully, he has promised that the crew would not learn of it, but what of his other contacts?"
Trobilu nodded to Meptoa, motioning for him not to interfere, then turned and glared at the others as he drew his daggers slowly, moving into a fighting stance. "this is my proposal, a duel. if you win, metal skull and i will join you; if i win, he and i go our seperate ways, making our way to Crifak, where we will take upon us the test of time, then return and rid this city of the hunters by force! this will be a duel of honor, i urge the rest of you to stay out of it, or i will be forced to fight you as well. i will not kill him, so that you may go with him if you still wish."

"He is not bound to honor its wishes. He also does not duel anyone if he can avoid it." Ivaylo bowed. "However, he does appreciate challenges. He will amend his promise, if it is permitted. He did not mean to carefully choose words, but to repeat those spoken to him. He is still debating the duel against him. He does not see the benefit for him in accepting. He was offering his help for gratitude only, and he was challenged to a duel where he would get nothing."
He kept his hand on his rapier from that point; an open challenge was made by someone willing to kill so readily, so he had to be prepared to protect himself. He walked to the other end of the room silently, deep in thought. He debated fighting to gain respect, but respect wasn't something he needed from anyone but his crew. He wasn't worried about honor, so he had no reason to accept it for that.
Feryn finally spoke. "There's no need for a duel. Proving who is stronger in a fight doesn't prove honesty. If that's what it takes to gain your trust, you must have many people hunting you, all of them having your complete trust. A fight for trust is a weak bond." Once she finished, she walked away, standing in the opposite corner of the room as Ivaylo, not wanting a response. If he responds, he won't offer anything but either idiot bravado or he'll agree.
Pietra moved forward next. "I will accept the duel instead." She drew her blade. "I cannot pass up any opponent. Especially if I am the better option for an untested opponent." She turned to Ivaylo. "Come, ser. We will show them glorious battle." She raised her sword over her head triumphantly for no purpose except to look stronger.
Ivaylo turned to her. "He is not one to fight a female, especially one who could crush him in her fist alone." He said nothing more before going back into thought. Finally, he walked back to the others. "He will draw his blade, but will wait to duel until he knows his opponent. He will let them decide among themselves who will duel him."
(Comparative Heart roll = d20 + (Heart): Pietra 6, Trobilu 7, Trobilu wins.)
Pietra sheathes her blade. "This is not truly my fight. It was a fool choice of an egomaniac." She stepped away. "Have fun, you two. If either of you dies, it is your own fault."
Ivaylo silently nods and draws his rapier. "He is willing to fight the challenger, then, if his challenger still believes there is a need for battle."
